WHAT WAITS BELOW

A disappearance from 1996 reaches across thirty years.

1996

In the summer of 1996, eleven-year-old Lavenia Stevenson vanished from a neighborhood block party and was never found.

Thirty years later, sixteen-year-old Devynn inherits her family's Gift of Sight and begins to see what no one around her can. As she is drawn deeper into Lavenia's story, the past refuses to stay quiet, and a truth long kept hidden begins to surface.

Told in the spirit of Crooklyn, Eve's Bayou, and Beloved.

Lavenia Stevenson is a fictional character.

03 / Why this film

An act of remembrance

For the girls the news moved past, and the families still waiting.

Every year, girls go missing whose names never reach a headline. Girl Beneath the Floorboard is made for them: the girls the news moved past, the families still waiting, and the stories that deserve to be told with tenderness and truth.

It is a supernatural mystery, and it is also a way of remembering. Lavenia is imagined, but the girls she stands for are real, and this film is dedicated to them.

Some stories refuse to stay buried.
